WASTE MANAGEMENT AT MAKERERE UNIVERSITY

Proper waste management protects the environment by preventing land pollution, threat to human health where risks of contracting diseases associated with poor waste management like dysentery and cholera are high thereby promoting hygiene and sanitation around campus. At Makerere University, different waste receptacles are allocated in different centers of the colleges and halls around the university to ensure proper disposal of waste at any point. 

Waste disposal has always been a crucial issue around the university since it accommodates a large population of people from different localities and behavior. This raises a sanitation concern thus different waste receptacles being placed at different points of the university some donated by different clubs and organizations to allow a room for proper waste disposal at any point and anywhere. 

Proper waste management is the placement of waste in a designated waste receptacle, or other suitable container which is regularly emptied by a refuse collector, or disposed into a system designed to convey domestic sewage for proper treatment and disposal.

 Makerere University has recently been going through a crisis under the Agora discourse on social media platforms especially X formerly known as Twitter questioning the vice chancellor Professor Barnabas Nawangwe's  academic credentials which they argue that they are not worth him being a professor besides his position in the University as the Vice Chancellor
